New to Fusion 360 – Sheet Metal

After much angst and waiting, sheet metal has finally been officially released on the 8th August 2017 in Fusion 360! As it marks a major milestone in the evolution of Fusion 360.  Previously it has been warming up in the bullpen known as “preview” mode.

Not only does it include some applause-worthy improvements to existing design tools, Autodesk has also introduced cutting-edge preview workflows and brand-new functionality.

So, without further ado, here’s a quick run-down on what you can expect to find in Fusion 360’s sheet metal workspace:

  1. Sheet Metal Workspace
  2. Flange command
  3. New Sheet Metal component
  4. Sheet Metal Settings
  5. Contour flange
  6. Flat patterning
  7. Folding a part

Similar in ways to Inventor, with its flanges, rules and flat patterns, but there are some differences as well.

My overall opinion of Sheet Metal in Fusion 360? Really simple, easy to use, yet powerful at the same time!
