Error: A StartDocPrinter call was not issued when plotting to PDF in AutoCAD

Issue:

When plotting to PDF using a 3rd party PDF creator, or a pc3 that uses the PDF Creator, AutoCAD does not plot and shows the error ‘Error: A StartDocPrinter call was not issued’ in the plot and publish details.

Causes:

There is a problem with connecting to the PDF Creator in use.  Potential causes could be:

  • Corruption in the PDF Creator
  • It may have been renamed
  • It may have been deleted

Solution:

As a workaround, us one of the ‘AutoCAD PDF.pc3’ or ‘DWG to PDF.pc3’ printers to create PDF files.

To Print with the PDF Creator, try one of the following:

  • Reinstall the PDF Creator
  • Check the ‘Devices and Printers’ to see if the PDF Creator exists, and if it has the correct name
  • Reach out to the 3rd party that released the PDF Creator for troubleshooting
