Saadiyah Dockrat: Curiosity, Courage, and Commitment in BIM

Posted On 2025-09-02

When it comes to shaping the digital future of construction, Saadiyah Dockrat brings a unique blend of curiosity, resilience, and leadership. Her journey into BIM didn’t begin with a grand plan, but with a simple thought: “There has to be a smarter way.” That spark of curiosity has since grown into a career where she is now leading international projects and inspiring others to embrace the possibilities of digital transformation.

A Career Built on Curiosity and Courage

For Saadiyah, BIM was discovered in a moment of frustration. While working on shop layouts in 2D CAD, she found herself manually overlaying drawings to check for clashes, a repetitive and inefficient process.

“I remember thinking there had to be a smarter and more efficient way of doing this,” she recalls. That’s when she first encountered BIM, and it immediately ignited her passion.

Driven by her natural curiosity and love for continuous learning, Saadiyah immersed herself in the world of digital design and coordination. BIM became more than just a tool; it became a pathway to make a real impact on how teams work, communicate, and deliver.

Milestones and Achievements

In just two years as a Senior BIM Coordinator, Saadiyah has already achieved career-defining milestones with international projects. Taking ownership of the role, implementing workflows, and guiding a team towards successful submissions has been a source of pride and proof of how quickly she has grown.

“It’s been incredibly rewarding to see how far I’ve come in such a short time,” she shares. Her achievement stands as a testament not only to her technical skills but also to her courage in stepping into leadership roles early in her BIM journey.

Advice for Women in BIM

Saadiyah’s message to women pursuing careers in BIM is both empowering and practical:

“Never stop being curious and believe in your ability to achieve anything you set your mind to.” She encourages women to take advantage of the wealth of resources and learning opportunities available, to build confidence, and to grow their network within the supportive BIM community.

Most importantly, she reminds others not to let external voices define their potential. “That’s something only you can decide,” she says, underscoring her belief in ownership, empowerment, and self-determination.

Beyond BIM: The Lighthearted Competitor

Away from the office, Saadiyah is an adventurer at heart. She loves travelling and exploring new cities, immersing herself in different cultures and experiences. She’s also a competitor, enjoying sports like Padel, which balances her love of challenge with fun. Above all, she treasures time with family, where laughter and connection keep her grounded.

What many don’t see, however, is her ability to thrive under pressure. Known for her lighthearted and funny nature, Saadiyah also brings resilience, adaptability, and a tireless work ethic when the situation demands it. This balance of humour and grit is central to her success in BIM, where working smart, efficiently, and with purpose makes all the difference.

Her personal motto sums it up best: “Work smart, stay curious, and take ownership.”
